Someone once told me all my possessions are calling out to me. My books are asking to be read, my movies want to be watched, my clothes plead to be worn. The more I own, the louder the bombardment of emotional and mental clutter at home. This leads people to declutter and simplify their lives, but it can also be said of the mental and emotional baggage we carry around. For me, that was managing several blogs and trying to develop new content for Substack, while tending to my job, working on novels, and keeping up with my relationships. (All of them were screaming at me to create content and not neglect them and calling me names for not doing it.)
So, I simplified my life, and will use Substack as a hub to inform my readers and subscribers of new content and book / article releases. Once a month, I’ll round up everything I wrote or shared in the last four weeks and will send you links to it.
NEWS: Trying to post multiple characters a week on Funky! MBTI ate up too much of my time, so it’s now one character a week, every Monday morning.
I am also moving some of my Enneagram 6 posts to Funky!, and they will start posting on weekends. I’m interested in hosting guest posts from other types about their self-observed growth patterns, so if you are interested, please let me know (leave a comment here on Substack, or e-mail me at speaksmyname@gmail.com).
MOVIE REVIEWS:
Marie Antoinette, Season 2 (2025)
Twenty-four years ago, The Affair of the Necklace came out, all about the scheme that took down a queen. Now, the second season of the gorgeously filmed Marie Antionette follows the same story, but with much more time devoted to the players, the personal lives of the monarchs involved, and their many enemies at the court… [read more]
Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light (2024)
Ten years after its first season, Masterpiece Theatre brings us the conclusion of Thomas Cromwell’s story, based on Hilary Mantel’s award-winning trilogy and final novel. It is a moving, engaging portrait of a compassionate but ruthless man brought down by circumstances beyond his control, but there are few historical hiccups along the way… [read more]
ARTICLES/BLOG POSTS:
Haunted by the Past: Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte
It happened one night, during a ball. The day before they planned to elope (and skip out on his wife), Charlotte’s lover wound up hacked to death in the summerhouse. The Enneagram 6’s Path to Self-Growth: Self-Awareness
Someone asked me recently if my understanding of my type has changed over the last year or so, and I had to think about it (ha, ha, on brand for a head type, no?). I don’t think my understanding of 6 has changed, since I have been aware of “what is 6” and “how does it operate” for a long time now… but I think I have changed, enough that people in my every day life have commented on it, told me I seem more at ease with myself, more peaceful, less frustrated and worried, less reactive, etc. It’s nice to hear those things. Mostly what I have done is… taken “ownership” of “all of me.” [read more]
CHARACTER TYPING POSTS:
Wolf Hall: Anne Boleyn [ESFP 8w7]
Anne loves to dance, flirt, ride horses, and allow the king “sexual privileges” in exchange for money. She fully intends to hold him off and tease him until he gives her what she wants (the throne), but she winds up “naked as the day she was born” in his bed in France after a fierce argument about her treatment of the French ambassador… [read more]
The Big Country: Julie Maragon [ISFJ 6w5]
Julie has a deep and abiding love for the ranch she grew up on, and happily reminisces about the grand parties her grandfather threw up at the big house, before he died and it fell into disrepair. She dreams of fixing it up one day, but can’t afford it on a schoolteacher’s salary, so instead, she spends time on the property and is painting the little house down the hill… [read more]
Battlestar Galactica: Chief Galen Tyrol [ESFJ 9w8]
Chief frames all of his decisions around how they affect others, which also makes him fantastic at rallying his people, keeping up their morale, and knowing how to motivate them to work together on the Galactica. For example, in one episode, he builds a new fighter ship from scratch. Initially he’s doing it by himself, but people gather around him and everyone gets involved, from those who do communications to his flight deck crew… [read more]
Wonder: Via [ISFJ 9w1]
Via has gotten used to her brother getting all the attention and settled into a routine, where she keeps her head down, tries to do her best by her brother, and treasures the relationships she had. She expects nothing to have changed over the summer when she meets up with her old friend, and it shocks her to be cut out of her life and ignored… [read more]
CURRENT WRITING PROJECTS
I’m working on rewriting I, Claudia, and am kicking around an idea for an MBTI + Enneagram combination book (what 9 looks like in the various types, etc) or books, but it’s still in the planning stage. I will let you know how it goes or if it’s in development later in the year.
If you want to request characters for me to type, leave a comment here or contact me at Funky! MBTI. I read every request even if I may not get to that film for a while.
Have a wonderful April, and see you next month!
Charity
This is a wonderful idea, I really love the way you list all the things you posted this month so we don't miss out anything and everything is in one place. Also, the news about the Enneagram + MBTI book are very exciting. I hope getting rid of a few blogs and simplifying things makes life simpler and more peaceful for you. ♡
